About Me

lucy-palm-springs

My name is Lucy, and I have been studying nutrition on and off for many years. In November 2008, I went vegan after watching a really sad movie about the life of farm animals. I know it is the right choice for me, because I myself would not treat the animals the way they were treated in the movie, so why should I support an industry that does? It just really comes down to the golden rule. Ever since I went vegan, I have uncovered a lightness and skip in my step that can only be achieved from living in alignment with your authentic self :)

Everyone is different, and if you haven’t already, I encourage to look into the different dietary options. Here are some resources, both visual and audio to help you on your journey.

Earthlings - A breathtaking documentary that will surely answer the “Why vegan?” question.

What is the reason for being vegan? - An interesting thread from Amazon which gets pretty deep into different peoples reasons for eating a vegan or vegetarian diet.

Beyond veganism, I have always had an interest in raw foods from a nutritional stance; it’s the only diet that appeals to my intuition about what is good for me. You can tell me for hours on end about all the double blind studies showing the healing effects of Vitamin C, but somehow I would still rather grab for the orange than the pill. A double blind study, can show you a snapshot about the relationship between two variables, but what about all the other variables? And what about time? Then, if you think about the economic interests behind the studies, it opens up a whole other can of worms.

I believe that health is a holistic process, and that science is still behind intuition when it comes to understanding it. This is not to say that I don’t listen to the science about health, but just that I will understand it for what it is. It makes sense to me that our ancestors ate a lot of raw foods that they picked from the earth, and my intention is to eat a diet closer to that, than the modern convenience diet of mostly processed foods, also commonly referred to as the Standard American Diet “SAD”.

I also understand the conflict between eating naturally and the “real world”. The truth is that many of us are very busy throughout the day, without the time to prepare elaborate meals. Most of us are not used to eating living foods and don’t know enough about the raw food combinations that they like to successfully “go raw”. On top of that, much of our leisure time is centered around going to restaurants, that are not up to speed with the emerging raw and vegan trends.

The Birth of Living Foods Life

In January of 2009 I was laid off from my job, right in the midst of the economic down-turn. Suffice to say, it was a blessing in disguise :) For me, I see it as an opportunity to experience what its like to have a lot of time, and to really follow my passions and see where they take me, without worrying about money. After years of being an overachiever, this is an experiment that I owe to myself. Gandhi said that life is a series of experiments; I hope this one turns out alright.

After hours of research, and experimentation I launched Living Foods Life in June of 2009. Since this site is still relatively new, I would like to briefly discuss my intentions for LFL. Given all the info I just told you about my passions and beliefs maybe you know where this is heading :)

A Beginners Guide: I want LFL to be a resource for everyone seeking a better way to eat; I want to especially cater to beginners. I’ve created the “Getting Started” category to slowly ease people into a healthier diet. In this section, I will go through the beginning steps towards getting into a diet with more living foods. As far as standards go, this site will be about the vegan diet with an emphasis on raw foods. I am not a raw foodist, but each week I look for more and more ways to incorporate raw foods into my diet.

A Recipe Index: I am always on the lookout for really good recipes that are not too difficult. As I experiment with raw or vegan foods I will post the recipes that come out really good, that I know I will make time and time again. I am especially interested in the easy ones, or the ones that you can prepare on Sunday and take to work.

A Product Guide: There is a whole maze of products out there to help with un-cooking; probably just as many as there are cooking products. If you are just starting, I would start out with a blender or a juicer depending on whether you like smoothies or juice more. As I go through the research on finding the right product for my kitchen, I will post my findings on LFL. When you click off of my site to buy the product I will get a small commission, so please remember to click through my links when its time to make a purchase that I helped you out with. I greatly appreciate it, because these links help my site stay in operation, and prevent me from having to clutter up the site with ads.

A Cost-Cutting Guide: I am by no means made of money, so when I find a deal I will share it. I know that there are location barriers to this, so mostly I will just be recommending websites that have the lowest price.

That’s it! Hopefully I have covered everything you ever wanted to know about this project :) Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy the site. I look forward to having some fun with this. It will be a learning experience for myself especially. If you like what you see here feel free to share it.

Blessings to all and happy surfing,

Lucy
